The Need To Know About Therapy

FAQ’s

How does Sliding Scale Work? How do I know if there are any openings?

Sliding Scale is a discounted price per session of therapy, depending on what you can afford. I ask you how much you believe you can budget for weekly therapy, and we discuss an appropriate amount. All I ask is that if you can pay more or full price let me know so that I can adjust the open spots for sliding scale clients.

To know if there are any open spots for a sliding scale, I do my best to put how many slots are left under my services. If none are left, I will also make a note of that. Otherwise, you can email, text, or call me, and I will let you know what is available.

Do you take insurance?

No, I do not take any insurance. I do offer out-of-network service through. I can provide you a Superbill after our session, which you can then turn into your insurance, and your insurance may reimburse you, as you still have to pay for the session at the time of your appointment. However, I am not responsible if your insurance chooses not to.

Are there any benefits to not using insurance?

Yes! Insurances want to have your diagnosis, which will become part of your medical record. They also can audit your therapy progress, which could invade your privacy. Lastly, they control your treatment, and they can determine how many and frequently your sessions can be.

What you get from therapy without insurance is more secure confidentiality, less on your medical record, and more freedom on how you would like your treatment to be.

Policy on Cancelations

I do require you to have a credit card on file for SimplePractice. However, cancellations at least a day before a session (full 24 hours) will have no fee unless repeated.

Same day cancelations, you will pay half the fee of your session's cost. Exceptions may be given for emergency cases.

If you don't show up to a scheduled appointment with no notification, you will pay the full fee for the session you had scheduled. Again exceptions may be given for emergency cases.

After three same-day cancelations or no-shows, I will refer you out. I do this because you reserved a time slot unavailable for other clients when you cancel last minute or do not show up. I want to be respectful of your time but also mine.

I’m tired of teletherapy, can we meet in person?

Currently, I am only able to do teletherapy.

How do I prepare for my first session?

Sessions are virtual, so having a space where you feel comfortable talking without being overheard is essential. It would be best if you also had a quiet area without distractions and access to a webcam so I can see who you are and hear what you're saying.

Other than that, there will be forms sent to you via email that you will need to fill out before your appointment. And that's it for preparations!

What are sessions like?

The sessions are 50 or 90 minutes video sessions. We will meet using Google Meet, and you will receive the invitation to join the meeting at least 10 minutes before the session.

When you are logged on, we will discuss payment and any questions you may have before starting.

Then we will then talk about whatever it is you want to talk about, the problem you are dealing with or trying to unravel.

Then towards the end of the session, I will ask you if you have anything you want to put in the note to discuss next time and schedule your next appointment.

If you like having homework or something to work on in between sessions, we can discuss and develop a plan together.
